This report presents survey data from the Survey of Federal Support to Universities, Colleges, and Nonprofit Institutions for Fiscal Year 1991. This is a survey of the 15 Federal agencies that provide virtually all of the Federal funding for science and engineering research and development (R & D) at universities and colleges. Amounts for tuition support programs such as Pell Grants and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants are included in the figures; totals exclude loans to individuals. Data tables list federal obligations to univesities and colleges by type of activity for the fiscal years (FYs) 1963-91. Data present federal obligations for science and engineering R & D, first by geographic division and state, for FYs 1984-91; second, by the 100 universities and colleges receiving the largest amounts, ranked by total amount received, by agency for FY 1991; and, third, by state, institution, and agency for FY 1991. Statistical data also show federal obligations to universities and colleges by: (1) type of activity and agency for FYs 1963-91; (2) geographic division and state for FYs 1984-91; (3) agency and type of activity for FY 1991; (4) geographic division, state, and agency for FY 1991; and (5) the 100 schools receiving the largest amounts, ranked by total amount received and type of activity for FY 1991.
