Florida State Univ., Tallahassee. Center for Instructional Development and Services.
This Career Merit Achievement Plan (MAP) includes the performance and knowledge competencies required for entry-level employment as a licensed practical nurse. Business and industry representatives have recommended that students in this field master these competencies in order to become employable. An overview provides information on use of the MAP by administrator, instructor, student, and employer and on how to rate student performance. The MAP is designed to display the intended outcomes and the student performance standards (SPSs) required by the local education agency and to document the level of achievement on SPSs that the student demonstrates. These 23 SPSs are included: use verbal and written communication; demonstrate legal and ethical responsibilities; describe human growth and development; provide emergency care; perform aseptic techniques; describe anatomy and physiology of the human body; perform physical comfort and safety functions; provide personal patient care; perform nursing procedures; administer medicine; apply principles of nutrition; provide care for medical/surgical, maternal/newborn, pediatric, geriatric, preoperative, and postoperative patients; apply principles of infection control; provide bio-psycho-social support; perform supervised management functions; assist with rehabilitative activities; perform home health care services; demonstrate employability skills; and demonstrate knowledge of sexually transmitted diseases.
