Malkasian, Mark; Davidson, Louise K.
This teacher's resource book is designed to be used with "In the Shadow of the Cold War: The Caribbean and Central America in U.S. Foreign Policy," which was written to help high school students to weigh important U.S. foreign policy issues. The resource book includes eight lessons. Lessons 3-6 focus specifically on the dimension of the triangular U.S.-Soviet-Cuban relationship, while lessons 1, 2, 7, and 8 explore the U.S. role in the Caribbean and Central America. This book also contains notes that supplement the student text. These notes feature background on the Cuban missile crisis, including much of the correspondence among U.S. President John Kennedy, Soviet Premier Khrushchev, and Premier Fidel Castro. Other notes highlight key aspects of Cuban history since Castro's rise to power. (DB)
