This self-evaluation report was written to provide the University of Florida (Gainesville) with a comprehensive document regarding access by students with disabilities to the programs, services, and activities it provides to all students, staff, faculty, and the community at large. The report, which provides a basis for planning and improving services and programs, is designed to bring the University into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and covers areas not covered by a 1978 self-evaluation, as well as information that has changed since 1978. Specific areas covered include: grievance procedures related to access to the university; inservice training; academic affairs including libraries and the various components of the Office of Instructional Resources; administrative affairs, including facilities planning, transportation, telecommunications, and emergency services; employment; student affairs including admissions, student recruitment, student registration, committee membership, the Career Resource Center, counseling services, dining facilities and services, housing, the Student Union and Student Activities Office, student financial affairs, student health care, day care, orientation, student government, and Greek Affairs. Other areas of interest covered are commencement, cultural programs, electronic technology, publications, and recreation and athletics. Several recommendations are offered for service improvement. By far the greater part of this document consists of 21 appendices containing supplementary materials related to all the topics discussed in the main text, with examples and documentation. (JDD)
