Milstein, Mike M.
Schools are being increasingly encouraged to "restructure" to improve education in schools. However, restructuring has many different meanings for different people. This book addresses the origins, purposes, and methods of restructuring schools and clarifies the definition of restructuring. It also advocates comprehensive change in thinking about education. Activities that promote restructuring are outlined, and information is presented on the means of developing structures and roles to accomplish restructuring. Also, the great difficulties of restructuring are explored as well as the means of assessing the effectiveness of restructuring efforts. Chapter topics include defining restructuring, clarifying purposes, developing structures and roles to serve purposes, promoting supportive beliefs and behaviors, providing resources, changing schools' issues and strategies; assessing restructuring efforts, and initiating activities to promote restructuring. A list of suggested readings and resources is included. (Contains 39 references.) (JPT)
