Looking at Ourselves and Others. [Revised.]
Legowski, Margaret
One of the goals for volunteers in the Peace Corps of the United States is to teach U.S. citizens about the people and culture of their host countries. World Wise Schools promotes this goal by matching current Peace Corps volunteers with 3rd through 12th grade classes throughout the United States in information exchanges. This guide is designed to support teachers in exchanges with Peace Corps volunteers by introducing students to basic concepts of perceptions, stereotyping, and culture. The readings and activities of the guide, which have been written primarily for intermediate level classes, will help students to: (1) recognize differences in perception; (2) identify stereotypes and practice strategies for reducing stereotypes; and (3) define culture and recognize its role in developing perceptions of one's self and others. The guide includes teacher background readings, activity ideas, and student worksheets. A 33-item list of resources is included. (DB)
