College, Knowledge, & Jobs, 1991.
This guidebook identifies marketable skills employers look for in job candidates and lists 22 majors and specific vocations related to each major. There is also a section on jobs that require a general education, which applies to students in any major. Following each brief description of a major or educational program, there is a list of marketable skills the student may gain through that program of study. The section on marketable skills describes selling points for employers based on skills that the student acquires by majoring in a specific field or earning a degree in Liberal Arts. Also provided are charts of traditional and nontraditional jobs that show the student what education and experience is needed to get a particular job as well as who is doing the hiring. Lists of other sources (articles, books, directories, and guides), with capsule descriptions, appear after each major and in the 31-item bibliography at the guidebook's conclusion. Directories and other helpful sources are also listed, including information for special groups, such as the disabled, and minorities. (GLR)
