This competency analysis profile lists 155 competencies that have been identified by employers as core competencies for inclusion in programs to train forest industry and resource conservation workers. The core competencies are organized into 10 units dealing the following: general safety precautions, natural resource industry operations, soil conservation, equipment maintenance, equipment operation, facility construction and maintenance, business management, employability skills, the forest industry, and resource conservation. Unit 8 (employability skills) has been further divided into the following subunits: career development, decision making and problem solving, work ethic, job-seeking skills, job retention skills, job advancement, technology in the workplace, lifelong learning, economic education, balancing work and family, citizenship in the workplace, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Unit 9 (the forest industry) includes subunits on forest nursery operations, forest measurements, forest establishment, forest management, tree harvesting and processing, wildland fire operations, and urban forestry tree care. Unit 10 (resource conservation) contains subunits on the resource conservation industry, water quality management, mapping, nature interpretation, fish and wildlife management awareness, and groundskeeping.
