Fine Tuning the Mechanics of Success for Families. An Illinois Family Literacy Report. Report 4: Policy.

This report, the fourth in a series describing an ongoing investigation of Illinois family literacy programs, documents the work and organization of a group that studied and developed state policy in the area of family literacy. The report includes the following: (1) the position paper that outlines the findings of the family literacy policy group and their suggestions for fostering educational programs for adults and children; (2) recommendations from the Illinois Literacy Resource Development Center regarding statewide administration of family literacy programs and development of the position paper; (3) a description of how the agenda was advanced after the meetings; and (5) the present status of the state initiative. Twelve appendixes provide documents from the project, including participant list, fact sheets, purpose and outcomes of meetings, state agency personnel, national and private initiatives, family literacy in other states, mission statements, prioritized needs, small group reports, governance discussion, subcommittee discussion, and a one-page summary.
