Basic Automotive Mechanics. Florida Vocational Program Guide.
University of South Florida, Tampa. Dept. of Adult and Vocational Education.
This program guide identifies primary concerns in the organization, operation, and evaluation of a basic automotive mechanics program. It is designed for local school district and community college administrators, instructors, program advisory committees, and regional coordinating councils. The guide begins with the Dictionary of Occupational Titles occupational description. A section on program content presents the curriculum framework that contains major concepts/content, laboratory activities, special note, and intended outcomes and the student performance standards that are divided into the outcomes shown in the curriculum framework. The section on program implementation addresses the following: teacher characteristics, conventional instructional methods, student admissions criteria, student placement, cooperative education, and student organization participation. An instructional resources section lists suggested resources organized by outcome. The section on setting up classroom and laboratory facilities covers facility design recommendations and safety, maintenance, and liability. The next section lists equipment items by outcome. The last section discusses teacher technical updating and teacher standards. A list of professional organizations and support services follows. A Career Merit Achievement Plan (Career MAP) is attached. It displays the competencies required for entry into the field of basic automotive mechanics and documents the student's level of achievement. (KC)
