This pocket folder of instructional materials is designed to introduce youth aged 9 to 12 to ornithology, the study of birds. The package includes a 4-H member's guide and a Leader's guide. The illustrated 4-H member's guide contains information about attracting and feeding birds. It also includes activities for cooking for birds, making bird feeders, and identifying birds. A reproducible field record is included to be completed when identifying birds. The leader's guide provides suggestions on activities, safety, and teaching techniques to supplement the member's guide. The remainder of the folder includes the following supplemental material: (1) the field record form; (2) a New York State bird checklist; (3) a chart containing bird-feeding tips; (4) instructions for building a wooden birdfeeder; and (5) a wildlife project for making birdhouses and birdfeeders.
