Telecommunication Education as a New Frontier: Institution Building in Alaska.
Pearson, Larry
Recent announcements of new ventures point to the important role of telecommunication in a wide range of media endeavors and underline the importance of adapting communication curricula to prepare students for living and working in an Information Age. An approach to telecommunication curriculum reform is suggested by the experience of the Department of Journalism and Public Communications at the University of Alaska at Anchorage. In reviewing its curriculum, it has used strategies that involved members of the local professional community, pointed to the relevance of telecommunication to the university's mission, and lowered barriers between the traditional professional tracks found in schools of journalism and mass communication.
