The Multicolored Mirror: Cultural Substance in Literature for Children and Young Adults.

This book expands on presentations made at a conference to provide a resource for teachers, librarians, educators, and others with an interest in cultural substance in literature. "Multicultural" is used to refer to people of color, including African Americans, American Indians, Asian Americans, and Hispanics. Seale); (9) "Cultural Substance: A Writer's Gift to Readers" (W. D. Myers); (10) "One Hundred and One Recommended Books by and about People of Color Published in the Early 1990s" (K. T. Horning and G. M. Kruse); (11) "Commentaries on Cultural Authenticity and Accuracy in Multicultural Children's and Young Adult Books"; and (12) "Children's Multicultural Literature Resources." Two appendices describe the Multicolored Mirror Institute for Writers and Artists and list the planning committee members. (SLD)
