Critical Thinking Activities To Improve Writing Skills: Whatcha-Macallits A-1.
Baker, Michael; And Others
Emphasizing real-life communication skills, this book offers cooperative activities to help teachers supplement their writing programs with easy-to-use critical thinking activities. The activities in the book are suitable for grades 4 through 8, for gifted younger students, or as a remediation tool for older students. The activities in the book ask students to analyze a set of objects to determine what attributes are shared and which are not, then to write a description of the set so that another student, after reading only that description, will be able to name or draw a member of the set and explain why the object selected belongs to the list. The book provides worksheets to help focus both writers and readers. The book presents sample activities and modeling, introductory activities, mixed bag activities, and activities for mathematics, science, and geography. (RS)
