Designed to be an all-in-one resource to give students an understanding and appreciation of literature, this book presents over 130 whole-learning activities that get students excited about literature while building reading, writing, and thinking skills. The book includes a wide variety of reproducible student worksheets, teacher-directed activities, projects, and bulletin board ideas that motivate student to explore and appreciate a wide variety of literary styles. The book is organized into three main sections: "Essential Story Ingredients" includes activities that deal with setting, character, plot, and author style; "Literary Designs" explores the popular literary forms of nonfiction, folklore, humor, and science fiction; and "Outstanding Works" introduces students to award-winning books. Sections in the book are divided into two parts--"teacher's choice" which includes activities and information for teachers; and "reader's choice" which presents students with background information and activities they can work on independently.
