Education in the World. International Yearbook of Education: Volume XL--1988.
Faraj, Abdulatif Hussein
This report is designed to familarize educators with systems of education in a selected sample of countries and with the development that has occurred in these systems between 1984 and 1986. The information presented is drawn largely from national reports and questionnaire reports summarized by member states of UNESCO at the International Conference on Education. The reports focused on development during 1984 and 1986 in Africa, the Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North American, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Each of the volume's first five chapters is divided into two parts: a comprehensive analysis of the educational development in each region; and a writing-by-writing analysis of such national features as principles and objectives of education, administration management, the education system, teacher training developments education 1984-86, and educational structures. Countries are listed alphabetically under each area. The last portion of the volume presents a comprehensive overview of the major findings of the report. In chapter 6, selected education systems are examined in terms of economic, philosophical, cultural, political, and religion factors. Chapter 7 is a comparative analysis of the regions discussed in the preceding chapters and a description of the overall characterics of each region. (DB)
