This resource book is designed to help parents help their children with the process of making decisions about college. It claims to help parents to: set high expectations for their children's future; know what college options are available; plan their finances with college in mind; and know what financial assistance may be available. These topics are covered: (1) general questions about college, including why attend college, what types of colleges exist, and what kinds of jobs are available to college graduates; (2) preparing for college, including what can a child do to prepare academically for college and what can a child do outside the classroom to prepare for college; (3) choosing a college; (4) financing a college education, including how much does a college education cost, how can a parent afford to send a child to college, what are the most common sources of financial aid, how to determine if a particular child is eligible for financial aid, and other ways to keep the cost of college down; (5) long-range planning; (6) important terms; and (7) other sources of information. Exercises and checklists are included on thinking about careers, a course planner for parent and student, college inquiries, college preparation checklist for students, and financial preparation for parents.
