Surgical Technology Program Guide.

This surgical technology program guide presents the standard curriculum for technical institutes in Georgia. The curriculum addresses the minimum competencies for a surgical technology program. The program guide is designed to relate primarily to the development of those skills needed by individuals in the field to provide services in the operating room under the supervision and responsibility of the operating room supervisor, who is a registered nurse. The general information section contains purpose and objectives; program description, including admissions, typical job titles, and accreditation and certification; and curriculum model, including standard curriculum sequence and lists of courses. The next three sections contain the courses: three general core courses (English, general mathematics, interpersonal relations and professional development); four fundamental technical courses (anatomy and physiology, introduction to surgical technology, principles of surgical technology, introductory surgical practicum); and five specific technical courses (surgical procedures I and II, specialty surgical practicum, advanced specialty surgical practicum, seminar in surgical technology). Each course consists of the following: course overview (description, competency areas, prerequisites, credit hours, contact hours); course outline with student objectives and class and lab hours; and resource list.
