Part five of a six volume series of theme papers commissioned for a congress on Catholic schools, this volume includes two papers. In "Catholic School Governance", Rosemary Hocevar reflects on Catholic school governance in order to expand the dialogue on the future of Catholic schools. Hocevar also examines how the Catholic schools have been governed; the relationships that have been established between the schools and the governing authority; and how the schools have been resourced and financed. Future challenges also are addressed by examining: (1) a future creative governance model that can support the mission of the Catholic schools; (2) future relationships that can be developed for the Catholic school community and the governing authority; and (3) future possibilities for the resourcing and financing Catholic schools. The second paper, "Governance" by Lourdes Sheehan examines the historic development of goverance in Catholic schools in order to understand and appreciate the current situation. The financial challenges facing Catholic schools in the future also are examined. (KM)
