Implementing the Eight Correlates of School/Site-Based Management. A Working Handbook.
Covey, Donald D.
School/site-based management requires shifting the initiative in public schools from legislators, school boards, superintendents, central administrative offices, and unions, to individual schools. The purpose of school/site-based management is to increase student achievement and success by making those closest to the delivery of educational services--teachers and principals--more independently responsible and accountable, and giving them appropriate authority for results. The following are cited as the eight correlates of school/site-based management: (1) statement of purpose; (2) policy development for school/site-based management; (3) school/site-based team management membership; (4) roles and relationships; (5) authority/decentralization of authority; (6) decision-making process; (7) mapping areas of school/site-based management and decision-making; and (8) school/site-based evaluation and refinement. Within sections for each correlate are a variety of items, including worksheets and examples from schools and educational organizations. (MLF)
