An Integrated Writing Approach for Teaching Descriptive Paragraphs to Third Grade Students.

A practicum used an integrated writing approach to improve 28 third-graders' ability to write descriptive paragraphs. The program consisted of two strategies: a process approach and a step-by-step approach. Success was measured by comparing the statistics of a pretest and a posttest and through observation, computer generated worksheets, and computer assisted instruction. Results indicated that 85% of the students could write a descriptive paragraph by the end of the 12-week implementation period. Students in the target group demonstrated positive changes in their daily writings and were motivated to use the computer to improve that writing. (Twenty-six references are included.
