Towards a Generic Curriculum Guide for the Less Commonly Taught Languages. NFLRC Research Notes.

The possibility is discussed of using a generic guide for syllabus construction across the less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) to facilitate the development of proficiency/ communicatively-oriented syllabuses and materials in the LCTLs. Issues addressed include the degree of overlap among LCTLs and the most desirable unit for constructing such a curriculum guide. The absence of needs analysis for LCTLs is seen as a major obstacle, and the possibility that "materials templates" may serve the same purposes as a general curriculum guide is suggested.
