The collective bargaining agreement between the Kern Community College District Board of Trustees and the Kern Community College Teachers Association/California Teachers Association/National Education Association is presented. This contract, covering the period from July 1, 1987 through June 30, 1990, deals with the following topics: bargaining agent recognition; association rights; faculty rights and duties, including academic freedom, personal freedom, and property rights; evaluation of certified employees; faculty load; staff site assignments/transfer; reduction in force; compensation and benefits, including certified contracts, class placement, administrative approval for course work, hourly substitute pay, summer session and continuing education pay, merit increment, early retirement plan, and health and welfare benefits; absences and leaves, including sick leave, unused sick leave, personal necessity leave, bereavement leave, emergency leave, disability pregnancy leave, child rearing leave, child adoption leave, military leave, jury leave, job related accident or illness, long-term leave without pay, retraining program, sabbatical leave, and short-term leave; personnel files and complaints; safety; and grievance procedures. Appendixes provide the Kern Community College District basic faculty salary schedules; basic faculty salary schedules for continuing education and summer sessions; information on health and dental benefits for retirees, on extra services pay for regular and contract staff, and on Bakersfield College department chair selection, compensation and duties; and excerpts from the board policy manual, and the California Education Code.
