Development and Implementation of a Parent Education Newsletter To Increase Parent Knowledge of Gifted Children.

This practicum report describes a gifted education program, for students in grades 1 and 2, which developed a newsletter to broaden the parents' knowledge of giftedness. The weekly newsletter, sent to parents of 43 children, addressed such topics as characteristics of the gifted, frequently asked questions, techniques used for instruction, higher level thinking skills, creativity, and perfectionism. A pretest and posttest administered to parents documented growth in parent knowledge over the 10-week implementation period. Appendices contain copies of forms used in the practicum, comments about the practicum from teachers and parents, and a sample newsletter. (Includes 10 references) (JDD)
