Link for Learning--A Parent Involvement Project.
Hughes Public Schools, AR.
Serving as a "how-to" manual, this book includes historical and background information on the "Link for Learning" project in Hughes School District in eastern Arkansas, followed by a step-by-step approach to the development of a parent education project. The first part of the booklet describes the school and community, the growth and development of the project, and the project itself, whose goal is to link regular teachers, Chapter 1 teachers, and parents into a support network for Chapter 1 children. The book notes that the first full year of the project had a significant impact on Chapter 1 student achievement. The second part of the book describes the 5 steps for putting together a parent education project: (1) Assessing Your Resources; (2) Showing the Need; (3) Developing a Rationale; (4) Planning the Project; and (5) Implementing the Project. A step-by-step outline for implementing a project, a checklist for holding a meeting with parents, and a list of sources of information are attached. (RS)
