Modern Foreign Language Curriculum Standards. Generic Standards, Level I-IV. Revised.
Delaware State Department of Public Instruction, Dover. Instructional Services Branch.
Delaware's state standards for modern foreign language curricula are designed to assist school districts in designing curricula in all languages. Introductory sections describe the evolution of the standards and the philosophy underlying foreign language instruction in the state, and offer general suggestions to the teacher for using the standards with a communicative approach. Practical classroom instructional issues are not addressed. The standards themselves are organized in four instructional levels, including: (I) grades 4-12; (II) grades 7-12; (III) grades 9-12; and (IV) grades 10-12. At each level, general curriculum topics are listed, with specific performance objectives and linguistic content (vocabulary, structure, and phonology) provided for each. A list of 12 references is appended. (MSE)
