Teacher Appraisal and the Concept of Varying Activities for Instruction: An Inservice Workshop To Maximize Credit Based on the Texas Teacher Appraisal System.

After reviewing literature on the effect that varying instructional activities has on student achievement, this document describes an inservice program designed to help teachers develop skill in varying activities, an aspect of Domain I in the Texas Teacher Appraisal System. Information provided includes: (1) alternative resources; (2) time allotment and schedule; (3) cost; (4) nature and rationale of long-range teacher performance goals; (5) performance objectives for the inservice; (6) a schedule of activities; (7) expected changes in teacher knowledge, behavior, understanding, and attitude; (8) a calendar of Domain I training; (9) staff development resources; and (10) level of teachers. Also described are the organizational content, delivery system and techniques, governance structure, and workshop evaluation. Appended are an example of teacher scores on Domain I, a workshop evaluation form, and an annotated bibliography of 47 resources related to varying instruction and various instructional methods.
