National Review of TAFE Teacher Preparation and Development: Literature Review.
This literature review examines vocational education and training literature for the major issues, debates, and developments relating to the role of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) teachers in Australia and presents key documents relevant to initial TAFE teacher education and professional development. The first section contains skills and competencies of TAFE teachers: (1) teaching skills; (2) curriculum development; (3) administrative and managerial skills; (4) industry liaison; (5) workplace context; and (6) general personal qualities. The second section reviews previous reports on TAFE teacher preparation and development: (1) the "Fleming Report" and the "Review of TAFE Teacher Training"; (2) professional development for industry consultancy; and (3) distance education in professional development. The third section covers TAFE teacher preparation programs in Australia. Information is presented for each of the eight geographical areas of Australia, summarizing programs, participants, length of program, course outline, electives, and other information on initial teacher training. The fourth section describes programs of professional development for TAFE teachers and summarizes information about current practices within the eight geographical areas.
