The Kentucky Department of Education's Postsecondary Design establishes school and program admission requirements with adequate educational opportunities and alternatives for those who do not meet these admission requirements. The design recognizes that all components of the curriculum contribute to the educational program of the institution. Each student is given an opportunity to develop skills in occupational and related areas. The major objectives of the Postsecondary Design are as follows: (1) to offer assessment of academic and occupational skills prior to enrollment or awarding diplomas; (2) to offer occupational preparation programs necessary for successful work; (3) to use representatives of and cooperate with agencies related to the delivery of educational programs; and (4) to provide job development, placement, and follow-up of students. The major components of postsecondary education in Kentucky vocational-technical schools are assessment and admission, school orientation, academic courses, required core courses, optional core courses, student completion activities, and exploration.
