An Articulation Model in Dental Assisting for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A Continuation.

A curriculum development project was conducted to generate additional competency-based modules to be used within the articulation model for Pennsylvania dental assisting programs, established in 1988. Project activities included reviewing, modifying, and providing parallel competency-based structure for the courses at the A.W. Beattie Technical School and the Dental Assisting/Oral Hygiene Program of the University of Pittsburgh that comprise the competency area "chairside dental assisting." The project also developed a concise presentation of the advantages of competency-based articulation, based on the model developed earlier, for presentation to at least three other accredited postsecondary dental assisting programs in the state. The final model, including the competency-based modules, process recording of articulation strategies, and the introduction for postsecondary school, was prepared for distribution by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
