Mentorship Is Networking. A Guide to Program Planning.

The Teacher Assistance Through Mentorship Program currently being implemented in Minnesota schools provides grant funding to 11 districts/coalitions willing to explore a variety of mentoring models. Legislative initiatives for expanding the program include grant funding, regional/statewide training, and technical services. This publication is designed to provide awareness of program benefits and examples of variations in approaches to mentoring. A description is given of the variety of options open to mentorship programs. These include such considerations as organizational structure, mentor/mentee assignments and selection, released time, mentoring activities, financial arrangements for mentor, staff development opportunities, and program evaluation. The 11 model demonstration sites are described under the following headings: site description, program features, leadership, mentor selection, mentor training, mentee selection, workshops and seminars, mentoring activities, cooperating institutions, resources for dissemination, and contact person.
