Women's Education Looks Forward: Programmes, Experiences, Strategies 1989.
Kotite, Phyllis, Ed.
Women's education and its development have been United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) issues since its inception. As humankind enters the 21st century, it faces a range of unresolved global issues that reflect the interdependence of the world's peoples. Since women comprise half of the world's population, they cannot be divorced from active participation in solving these global problems. Therefore, access to relevant education and training is a key to women's effective role in socio-economic, cultural, and political development. This document presents responses from around the world to UNESCO's request for information on efforts in the field of girls' and women's education. Seven chapters are presented: (1) adult education, literacy, and civic education; (2) education and training for rural women; (3) other innovative programmes; (4) technical and vocational education for women--science and technology; (5) women and higher education; (6) support services: credits, technology, co-operatives, marketing, mass media; and (7) strategies policies and women's machineries. A 68-item list of references is included. (DB)
