Instructing Primary Teachers To Integrate the Curriculum through an In-Service Program.

A practicum intervention designed to enable primary grade teachers to integrate the components of the curriculum by using a thematic approach was implemented and evaluated. Teacher inservice training in developing a theme unit was provided, along with a list of professional references on curriculum integration. Additionally, teachers (n=18) were provided with resources when they needed extra help in organizing the curriculum components. A booklet describing the steps in organizing and integrating the curriculum was developed and presented to teachers. Practicum evaluation data indicated that outcomes were positive. Participating teachers learned a strategy by which to develop a theme to integrate the curriculum. Related materials are appended, including the booklet. Citations number 26. (RH)
