Performance-Based Assessment Resource Guide.

This resource guide reviews a variety of performance-based student assessment strategies, and provides examples of, and references for, the strategies. Strategies include anecdotal records, interviews, peer report and group evaluations, and portfolios. Materials in the guide include: (1) a resource guide update form for teachers; (2) department guidelines on the assessment of student performance; (3) general information concerning performance-based assessment; (4) materials on anecdotal records, observations, and student profiles, with related forms and checklists; (5) learning contracts with students; (6) curriculum-based assessment; (7) interviews; (8) student participation; (9) peer reporting and group evaluation; (10) student portfolios; (11) student products; (12) questioning techniques; (13) self-assessment and self-reports; (14) task or performance assessment; and (15) writing. Material on each strategy includes a definition, a statement of the strategy's advantages, guidelines to assessment methods, sample forms, a short list of print resources, and references to contact persons who have experience with the method. Appendix A provides forms with which teachers can assess their evaluation and reporting systems. Additional print resources are listed in Appendix B. (RH)
