Community Participation in Nutrition Education. A Training Manual. Nutrition Education Series Issue 17.
Concepcion-Lutz, Paz, Comp.
This training manual is a compilation of the concepts, body of knowledge, and processes gained from a pilot project developed at Bunumbu Teachers College in Sierra Leone. The content and suggested activities refer specifically to Sierra Leone. The manual emphasizes community participation in curriculum development for health and nutrition education at all levels. Part 1 deals with community participation in nutrition education. Part 2 discusses teaching and learning in community participatory activities, from primary school through teacher education. Part 3 presents training modules for teachers. Much of the material came from papers, comments, or outcomes from seminars and curriculum writing workshops in community development, health, and nutrition. Appendices include a community nutrition survey for use with families; a form for entering the nutrition status of each child; checklist, pretest, and lesson outlines for the mothers' workshop in nutrition; and a scope and sequence table for primary home economics.
