Moral education, alternatively called religious or values education, traditionally has been viewed in countries of the Asia and Pacific region as a significant component of the social transformation process. The report describes current efforts to exchange information on the status and implementation of moral education for this region, to identify strategies, and to develop research instruments. A synthesis of country reports presented at the workshop, an analysis of problems and issues, and conclusions and recommendations are presented. The countries reporting include: (1) Australia, (2) China, (3) India, (4) Indonesia, (5) Japan, (6) Malaysia, (7) New Zealand, (8) Papua New Guinea, (9) Philippines, (10) Korea, (11) Singapore, (12) Sri Lanka, and (13) Thailand.
