From Classroom Teacher to Field Trip Leader. Hints for Getting There.
Lee County School District, Ft. Myers, FL. Dept. of Environmental Education and Instructional Development Services.
The idea of leaving the classroom and taking students outdoors where no structural boundaries exist can be unnerving for some teachers. Field trip experiences and out-of-the-classroom experiences are important for students. It takes concrete experiences for the students to understand and retain concepts and terms they have read and discussed in class. This document lists general responsibilities and helpful hints for leading outdoor field experiences. The guide discusses teaching techniques, available community study units, and steps for arranging and leading field trips. Appended are a request for special bus transportation with policy, and a sample parent permission form. (CW)
