This unit of study is made up of a series of activities designed to acquaint the students with changes and cycles in the world around them. The unit includes a field trip to a local beach where a number of changes can be observed first-hand. Life cycles, as well as the water cycle, are introduced in the unit through a variety of pre-trip classroom activities. Changes caused by the elements, sun, water, air, people, and wildlife, can be observed on the trip and in the classroom. This set of documents includes an overview, objectives, a field trip guide for teachers, and four sections of activities. Appendices include the 4Mat model, an application of this unit to the 4Mat model, a cognitive pre/posttest, a student book, a glossary, a discussion of scheduling considerations, and a parent permission form.
