Development of an Inservice Training Program for Teachers in the Parent Education Child Study Lab Setting.
A parent education instructor implemented a practicum intervention designed to address the information needs of part-time teachers in the parent education child study laboratory. The teachers wanted information concerning their roles and responsibilities in the laboratory programs. The laboratories were located at a community college with a staff of 30 parent educators, 50 classroom teachers, and a support staff of 4, that served over 1,000 students. The intervention targeted 14 teachers who were expected to continue working in the program. Objectives were to: (1) increase participants' understanding of program goals; (2) increase teachers' knowledge of their responsibilities concerning the job; and (3) decrease teacher turnover. In an effort to meet these objectives, a 1-day orientation session was held. Practicum evaluation data indicated that the intervention was successful.
