Report of the Title I/Chapter 1 Services Received by Graduates of the Columbus Public Schools.
Morgan, Kathy
This study examines the involvement of the 3,234 students who graduated from the Columbus (Ohio) Public Schools in 1988 in compensatory education programs funded under Chapter 1 of the Education Consolidation and Improvement Act. Program involvement is categorized as either program service or program treatment based on attendance. A student who has been involved in a program but has not met the program's attendance criterion is categorized as having received program service. A student who has been served by a Title I/Chapter 1 program and who has met the program's attendance criterion is categorized as having received program treatment. The following summary findings are reported: (1) more than one-fourth of all graduates received program service and almost one-fourth received program treatment; (2) the 903 students who received program service were involved with a program for an average of 2.2 years; (3) the 799 students who received program treatment were involved with a program for an average of 2.0 years; and (4) patterns of program service and program treatment varied greatly. Statistical data are included on 26 tables. Data includes the overall gender and ethnic distribution of 1988 Columbus public school graduates, as well as information on students in the programs.
