This guide is designed to help disabled students of all ages who are thinking about continuing their education after high school. The guide focuses on expressing one's needs, being open to change, practicing self-advocacy, planning ahead, looking for the best school, and checking admissions requirements. A section on services available for disabled students at some institutions of postsecondary education describes pre-registration, flexibility in class scheduling and course requirements, extended time, test modifications, notetakers, interpreter services, orientation for new students, and physical access. Services such as vocational rehabilitation, support groups, and Centers for Independent Living are also described. Procedures are outlined for making arrangements to receive necessary services.
