School Counseling: Strategies for Enhancement.
Cecil, Jean H.; And Others
This monograph describes a series of collaborative workshops and how they were developed by the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) to enhance the school counseling profession, especially in the areas of recruitment and curricula. It begins with a brief introduction and background material and with a description of the proposal for the workshops. Three workshops are described. A description of Workshop I, "Recruitment of School Counselors," contains a section on preliminary planning and summarizes these areas: identification of persons to recruit, funding, entry into the profession, priorities, and specific recommendations for action. A description of Workshop II, "School Counselor Preparation," contains a section on preliminary planning and summarizes activities of four workshop groups on: (1) basic issues in counselor preparation programs; (2) special and/or neglected areas in counselor preparation; (3) continuing professional development needs; and (4) certification and qualifications. Workshop III, "Second Workshop on School Counselor Preparation," is described and the areas of role and function, curriculum, certification, and research are addressed. The final part of the monograph examines workshop outcomes and contains recommendations for school counselor recruitment and preparation. Correspondence and other relevant materials are appended.
