Standards for Excellence in T & I Certification Five Years Hence.
Duenk, Lester G.
A descriptive study was conducted to compare current trade and industrial education (T & I) certification requirements throughout the United States with the 16 certification standards recommended in "Standards for Excellence in Trade and Industrial Education" by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), 1985. Data were gathered from T & I certification regulations submitted by 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Data were placed into the categories of: (1) preemployment requirements; (2) work experience requirements; (3) certification requirements; and (4) renewal requirements. Each of the USDE standards was restated, followed by a description of current practice as of August 1, 1989. This study will serve the needs of state departments of education and others who are seeking to update T & I requirements. (12 references) (Author/KC)
