Estimates of School Statistics, 1988-1989, As Provided by the State Departments of Education.
National Education Association, Washington, DC. Research Div.
The data presented in this report provide facts about the extent to which national, state, and local governments commit resources to educate the youth of the nation. Estimated data, based on survey responses of state education agencies, are featured for the current school year (1988-89) and for the prior year (1987-88) by state, with summary statistics for the United States over the last decade. Eleven state-by-state tables permit interstate and regional comparisons of educational systems; trends in national-level data are identified in the text. Data on current-year projects, state-by-state tables, and trends are divided into five main categories: (1) general administration (basic administrative units); (2) pupils (fall enrollment in public schools, average daily membership [ADM], average daily attendance [ADA], and high school graduates); (3) instructional staff (total instructional staff, classroom teachers, instructional staff salaries, and classroom teachers salaries); (4) revenues (revenue receipts); and (5) expenditures (total expenditures, current expenditures, current expenditure per pupil in ADA, capital outlay, and interest on school debt). Technical notes, notes to all tables, and a glossary are also provided. (MLF)
