This document articulates the goals and objectives of the elementary developmental guidance program in the Orange County, Florida Public Schools system. The stated foundation is that developmental guidance is founded in the belief that each student is unique and singular, possessing intrinsic worth and specific rights. The focus is on sequential programs of services and activities aimed at assisting the individual to develop and achieve realistic and self-satisfying life goals based on an understanding of self needs, interests, and abilities. The goals and objectives are discussed for kindergarten through fifth grade. Eight goals are listed for each grade level and multiple specific objectives are described for each goal. These goals include understanding the school environment; understanding of self and others; understanding attitudes and behaviors; decision making and problem solving; interpersonal and communication skills; school success skills; career development and educational planning; and community pride and involvement. Planning forms and descriptions of guidance activities are provided for each of the eight goals. Separate units are provided for primary and intermediate levels. (ABL)
