Failing America's Caregivers: A Status Report on Women Who Care.

This report provides and discusses current statistical indicators of the status of women caregivers in the United States. An introductory message from Lou Glasse, president of the Older Women's League, is included. Charts portraying the following caregiver statistics are presented and discussed: (1) percent of women over 18 who will be caregivers during their lifetime; (2) caregiver relationship to elderly care recipient; (3) days each week spent caregiving; (4) children and elderly as a percentage of total population, actual and projected, 1980-2040; (5) older Americans needing long-term care, 1980-2040; (6) actual and projected labor force participation rates for women and men aged 45-64, 1950-2000; (7) tasks performed by caregivers; (8) national support for national long-term care and child care programs; (9) women's income in comparison to men's; and (10) ways in which working caregivers to the elderly adjust work schedules to give care.
