Guidance and Counseling of the Elementary and Middle School Gifted Student.
Bingaman, David E.
This document presents an annotated bibliography of research and general articles on counseling gifted students in elementary and middle schools. Eight research articles are included which examine, respectively, intelligence scores of gifted students, academic and social self-concepts, family characteristics, underachievement, peer relations, loneliness, student attitudes, and social adjustment. Seven general articles address such issues as counseling gifted adolescents, suicide and the gifted adolescent, identification, underachievement, self-concept, family roles, family problems, and acceleration of gifted students. The first part of the document is a brief "directory of articles"; the second part presents the annotations in alphabetical order by author; and the final part consists of a summary and conclusions in which the point is made that gifted students have many problems in attempting to understand and cope with their talents and that the gifted program of a school requires the guidance counselor to react to it in all domains that the guidance department has available.
