Successful Practices Handbook. Health Careers Unit Career Vocational Education.

This handbook suggests teaching methods and classroom techniques for reaching high risk students in health occupations education classes. The handbook is divided into two sections. The first section is a compilation of information and intervention techniques shared by health careers educators throughout California. It serves as a source of ideas and strategies for helping instructors who use the guide to reach students who are having difficulty because of one or more of the following factors: poor attendance/tardiness, lack of motivation, disadvantage, limited English proficiency (LEP), or potential to drop out. The second section was developed as a result of a workshop for health occupations educators at the American Vocational Association Convention. This section addresses the issues of rewards, retention, and recruitment. It provides background information on each subject and strategies to assist the health careers teacher in alleviating some of the related difficulties in the classroom. (KC)
