Education of Homeless Children and Youth under the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act. Annual Report. Department of Education Form 1810-0536.
Colorado State Dept. of Education, Denver.
In response to the U.S. Department of Education requirement for a state status report on homeless children and youth, the Colorado Department of Education conducted a 1-day telephone survey of homeless service providers and school districts, to determine the numbers and educational needs of the state's homeless children and youth. The survey figures are intended to represent the numbers of homeless children and youth in Colorado on any given day of the year. The survey data are defined in several appendices. Appendix A contains a detailed explanation of the total number (1245) of homeless children and youth in Colorado on a given day. Appendix B is a detailed explanation of the estimated yearly total of homeless youth ages 14 through 21. Appendices C, D, E, and F respond to the federal status report form's questions regarding state housing for homeless children, reasons why homeless children do not attend school, and the special educational needs of Colorado's homeless children and youth. Appendix G is an explanation of the school district survey. Appendix H is a report on homeless youth not residing in traditional homeless shelters. Appendix I contains a copy of the Annual Survey on Education of Homeless Children and Youth, followed by copies of hospital and school district surveys developed by the Colorado Department of Education. Appendix J is a copy of the Denver Public Schools' proposed Pilot Project on educating homeless children and youth. Appendix K is a copy of the School District On-Site Review Form. (TES)
