These four books provide curricular materials for the study of North Dakota Indians at primary through high school levels. Issued on the occasion of the North Dakota centennial, they provide information about Indians that can be integrated into the school curriculum. The books at all levels begin with study of the centennial logo, pictured on the cover of each booklet. The primary book also offers suggestions about related materials in basal readers used in North Dakota, and cites resources concerning Indian songs, food, and crafts. The intermediate book examines Indian history, creation stories, tribal groups, Indian leaders, history of North Dakota reservations, and Indian song, music, and dance. The junior high school book includes material similar to the intermediate level, but also examines Indian medicines of North Dakota and provides a list of North Dakota Indians in science. The senior high school book examines North Dakota Indian reservations, the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission, the political status of North Dakota reservations, the issue of Indian sovereignty, tribal governments, and a history of reservations in North Dakota. It includes excerpts from historical documents relating to North Dakota Indians, songs and stories, and science units on Indians cultivation of corn and use of trees. The four books contain numerous pictures and photos. They also contain bibliographies amounting to about 350 items for further reading by both students and teachers. (DHP)
